Each player starts with nine pieces. Beginning with a player at random, players take turns placing pieces on the intersections of the lines of the board. After all the pieces are placed on the board, they can be moved along the lines one space at a time in any direction. The object is to remove your opponent's pieces from the board by creating a row of three men (a mill) along a straight line. Each time a player creates a mill, either during the initial placement or through moving, one opposing piece may be removed. You cannot remove a piece that is part of a mill if another piece is available. You may not remake the same mill by moving a piece out of line and then back into it, you must first make a different mill. A player loses when no move is possible or only two pieces are left.
